80% of all meters to be transitioned to new arrangements by October 2026<\/h2>\n

Elexon is working with the industry to complete the transition of all electricity meters (approximately 33 million in total) to the half-hourly settlement arrangements by May 2027. We aim to have moved 80% of all meters to the new arrangements by October 2026.<\/p>\n

Half-hourly settlement is one of the catalysts needed to deliver a five-fold increase in consumer-led flexibility to around 12GW by 2030, in support of Clean Power 2030.<\/p>\n

Using data to make new tailored flexibility offers<\/h2>\n

Suppliers and other companies can use the half-hourly consumption data we provide to create new, more tailored offers and services that reward consumers for being more flexible in their electricity use.<\/p>\n

Elexon has started the journey towards full provision of this critical data. We are collecting data on the number of meters that have switched to half-hourly settlement and the associated volumes (in GWh), and we are making it available through our\u00a0Market-wide Half-Hourly Settlement (MHHS) dashboards<\/a>.<\/p>\n

We have now also made the data from our\u00a0load shaping service<\/a>\u00a0available. Through this service, we calculate energy consumption profiles using actual, validated half-hourly meter data (rather than estimated data from profiling) which helps to improve settlement accuracy.<\/p>\n

New data repository being developed<\/h2>\n

Elexon is developing a data repository to securely store, manage, and provide access to the half-hourly data we collect. Our plan is to make this data openly available to anyone who wants to use it, subject to appropriate data protection provisions.<\/p>\n

The repository is essential infrastructure for a flexibility-led, net zero electricity system. It builds on the existing infrastructure Elexon has delivered to support MHHS and leverages Elexon\u2019s existing role in Settlement and market data flows. This approach is designed to ensure that we can achieve the best value for companies and consumers from existing digital infrastructure, while lowering system costs overall.<\/p>\n

Elexon Chief Executive, Peter Stanley, said: \u201cElexon already provides open and free access to some of the largest datasets available for the wholesale electricity market. As Suppliers transition more meters to the new half-hourly settlement arrangements, we are working quickly to make data associated with these available.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe role we play in data provision is expanding significantly. We look forward to seeing the data that we hold being used by companies to develop new tailored offerings that make flexibility provision much more common place among consumers. Our data can also help consumers to better manage their energy use, compare tariffs more easily, and ultimately reduce their bills.\u201d<\/p>\n
